Explaination of the Different Names for Endoscopes and Boroscopes
This is where it can get confusing, so I will try my best to explain the different names used in describing "endoscopes"!
BORESCOPES (also known as Technoscopes) - is a term referring to INDUSTRIAL ENDOSCOPES. In principle it is for Industrial Rigid Endoscopes but is often used in general terms for any Industrial Endoscope, rigid or flexible.
Borescopes are optical instruments that give you the inside view. Click here for information on choosing a borescope
FLEXIBLE ENDOSCOPES - very general term that can refer to any flexible endoscope, be it for Industrial or Medical purposes.
ENDOSCOPY - usually used to reference Medical Endoscopes. These are often related to more outpatient type procedures rather than surgical.
LAPROSCOPES - strictly surgical Endoscopes (includes veterinary use as well), used in various disciplines, general, gynae, urology, etc.
ARTHROSCOPES - all for orthopaedic surgery, knees, shoulders, wrists etc. - any joint in fact.
LIGHTSCOPES - this is a name used by MORITEX to describe their Industrial Flexible Endoscopes. Not to be confused with Light Guide Cables.
MEDICAL ENDOSCOPES - the technology involved in Industrial & Medical Endoscopes is pretty much the same. The difference is that Medical Endoscopes are built to be sterilised, either by chemical washing or autoclaving. Therefore, manufacturing involves different materials to seal the Endoscopes to allow for cleaning and sterilisation.
Industrial Endoscopes must never be used for any Medical or Veterinary procedures.
